  2. There is a frog-shaped hole in Arundhati Roy’s interpretation of the comments of Golda Meir and Levi Eshkol. For better or worse, they are not denying the personhood of Palestinians. They are denying the existence of a Palestinian entity. I personally believe that a Palestinian nation has come to exist, due in no small part to the occupation. But in the time of the administrations of Meir and Eshkol, shortly after the term Palestinian had come into prominence following the Palestinian National Charter of 1968, it is easy to understand their confusion at the sudden appearance of ‘Palestinian’ as a term referring to the people of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
