There are still a number of important editorials coming out with critical analysis about what a President Obama will mean. As my posts over the entire election campaign make clear, I’ve never felt duped by this candidate as he never represented progressive–let alone radical points of view. He seemed like the same old sort of [...]

Yesterday on Flashpoints JR & the Block Report featured an interview with Mumia Abu-Jamal, live from death row in Pennsylvania, to discuss the recent elections (or as JR calls them “selections”). Much of what both JR and Mumia said echoed Bill Fletcher and Ali Abunimah’s comments that I wrote about yesterday: that the response to [...]

i absolutely hate it that every year on 9/11 americans have to go through the task of reading all the names of the dead. i hate this because all it makes me think about is the names of the dead afghan and iraqi victims (and now pakistani, and by extention palestinian) of american state-sponsored terrorism. Rania sent me this brilliant joke:
An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred once in the United Nations Assembly and made the world community smile.
A representative from Palestine began: ‘Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Moses.
When he struck the rock and it brought forth water, he thought, ‘What a [...]

I’m wondering just what exactly international law is. Of course there is the Geneva Convention, but when was the last time (was there ever a time?) when anyone respected it and worked diligently not to violate it? I haven’t been following the American media much these days–don’t have the energy as there is too much [...]

i received these emails a couple of weeks ago and neglected to post them. ironic that as one team in lebanon is unable to continue clearing american-made/israeli terrorist forces dropped cluster munitions for financial reasons russia is dropping them on georgia:
Hi there, Marcy
If you haven’t heard, Russia has been dropping cluster bombs on innocent civilians [...]

So I went to see War, Inc. the other night with a friend. The movie is right up there with Three Kings as far as fabulous satire and war films go. The amazing images in this film of corporate sponsorship of war (to the extreme–as if on acid) was so over the top and outrageous, [...]
