TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO DEMAND THAT MORE BE DONE TO PROTECT PALESTINIAN REFUGEES IN IRAQ

*Please take a moment to write to your representatives and ask them to do more to protect Palestinian refugees living in Iraq who have become the latest target of Shiite death squads threatening to kill them, many have already been kidnapped and killed. Most recently Shiites have dropped leaflets in Palestinian neighborhoods with the following warning, “We warn you that we will eliminate you all if you don’t leave the area for good within 10 days.” Palestinians trying to escape are trapped at the Iraqi/Jordanian border after the Jordanian government closed the border to prevent them entry. Those Palestinians are now stuck in an extremely dangerous part of Iraq referred to as “no man’s land,” and they do not have water, food or shelter. A Palestinian diplomat in Baghdad who did not want to be named told the press that it is now routine to find several Palestinians a week in the morgue.

*While Palestinian refugees in Iraq were not allowed to own land or become Iraqi citizens in the past, most benefited from subsidized housing and free education. Remind your representatives that as an occupying power the United States has a responsibility under the Geneva Conventions to protect Palestinian civilians from human rights abuses. Tell your representatives that they must stop ignoring the plight of refugees in Iraq and occupied Palestine. There are an estimated 34,000 Palestinians in Iraq, of whom 23,000 have been registered by UNHCR in Baghdad. Emmanuel Gignac of UNHCR’s Iraq Support Unit in Geneva says that, “They (Palestinians) are feeling increasingly trapped, and for security reasons many have stopped going to work and have taken their children out of school. We know very well that life for other Iraqis is very difficult as well at the moment. The Palestinians feel, however, especially vulnerable and targeted as they were perceived to have been treated favorably by the previous regime.”

  1. Shiites are not responsible for that, and thy dont and will not do such a thing.
palestinian was living fine in iraq before the american invasion
but jews always want to make uprising. as every one know jews make benefits from wars and destructions of other nations.

Appealing to the killer is a silly idea, people should fight US. at least they should boycott their products.
what you were expecting from people in the white house who are destroying iraq, killing innocent people and stealing their money and oil.

    what you were thinking Dr.Marcy??

  2. First of all, if you click on the link you will see that this is not something I wrote, but rather something I posted in order to alert people to this problem.

Second, whether you like it or not this is the reality. The flyer posted in Baghdad states exactly what this post quotes and the group of people who signed the note identified themselves as Shi’a. Certainly, neither I nor the organization who is working to help the Palestinians in Iraq believes that this is a particular trait of Shi’a. However, given the circumstances wtih the U.S. occupation in Iraq the situation has devolved in horrific ways. There are Iraqis as well who have been kidnapped and killed by Iraqis. This is the reality. Yes, the Americans created the situation, but if Iraqis want to fight the Americans I, personally, don’t see how fighting other Iraqis or Palestinians will help the situation at all.

    Salam–

  3. I recommend anyone who wants to understand more about why Shi’a are indeed responsible for persecuting Palestinians in Iraq, to read the following Human Rights Watch report:

    http://www.hrw.org/reports/2003/iraqjordan/

While certainly the U.S. and Zionists are often the culprints for many horrors in the Middle East, this situation was created by various other forces and tensions that had little to do with either.
