tidbits

So I had to watch it. I saw way too many commercials for it on Al Jazeera, even though the text of the commercial made it clear that it would be completely offensive. Here is the exact text of the ad they have been running for its show “The Promised Land?”:

“This is the story of pioneers and promises. The story of an Arab land. After 2,000 years of exile, how and why did the Jews return to Palestine?”

Yes, they actually said that–the narrator said that. How can Al Jazeera live with itself by promoting such Zionist mythologizing? In the half hour program they used the word “Arab” more often than “Palestinian” and never used words like “genocide,” “massacre,” or “ethnic cleansing.” Instead they spoke of how the Jews “acquired” land.

Meanwhile, the ethnic cleansing operations continue unabated. Today, for instance:

Israeli soldiers confiscated 140 dunnums (0.14 square kilometers) of land in the northern West Bank village of Bardala in the northern Jordan Valley near the Bisan checkpoint.

The land owners appealed to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to support them and insist on cancelling the confiscation.

“This confiscation aims at changing borders before final status negotiations begin,” said the governor of Tubas Dr. Sami Musallam.” Israel is attempting to impose a de facto situation on the negotiations map.” He condemned the illegal confiscation which he described as contradictory to international law and UN resolutions as well as the Fourth Geneva Convention. He explained that international conventions ban the confiscation of lands from rightful property owners, and changing the demographics and geography of an occupied area by an occupying power.

And as the conquering of land continues, so too does the murder of Palestinian people, often children, as was the case in Nablus yesterday:

Israeli security guards killed a 14-year-old Palestinian boy on Saturday morning near the Israeli settlement of Yitzhar as he approached the settlement, Palestine News Network (PNN) reported.

The boy later was identified as Suheib Saleh from the village of Asseera Al-Qibliyeh, near the West Bank city of Nablus. Eyewitnesses said the boy died immediately upon receiving a fatal bullet. Suheib’s brother was killed in the same place in 2002.

The sources said that the boy was only 100 meters away from his home, but since the settlement had been built on land belonging to the villagers, so was adjacent to villager’s houses.

And, as Israeli Terrorist Forces do what they do best–round up and kidnap students–a woman who tried to protect them was murdered:

A Palestinian woman from Abu Dis in East Jerusalem died on Sunday morning after being pushed to the ground by Israeli soldiers who stormed her home, Palestinian sources told Ma’an.

The sources identified the woman as 60-year-old Maryam Ayyad. Israeli soldiers pushed her aside when she tried to block their way into her home, where they were seeking to arrest university students lodging upstairs.
