I had lunch with a student from Jenin today. She told me about Condoleeza Rice’s visit to her city yesterday. She told me about being under lockdown because of the visit. No protests were allowed. Palestinians were locked up inside their homes functioning ostensibly as jails for this visit. Most people in Jenin were very upset about Rice’s visit, but of course Americans don’t like Palestinians to express their dismay and their outrage.
What might Palestinians have to be outraged about you may ask? Well how about this brutal attack on a small Palestinian child in Khalil (Hebron) today. He was beaten up by illegal Israeli settlers:
Or how about the continued ethnic cleansing process of Al Quds (Jerusalem) as Palestinians were evicted from their home of fifty years so that Jewish settler colonists could live there instead:
A member of the Al-Kurd family said that Israeli troops police stormed their neighborhood and designated the area a “closed military zone,” preventing residents from reaching the house.
Or how about Israeli Terrorist Forces bulldozing Khan Younis in Gaza, which is now, by the way completely blacked out due to the fuel shortage–due to the oh-so-democratic and moral Israelis who won’t allow any more inside Gaza:
Palestinian resistance factions say they tried to block the invading forces and impede their progress deeper into the Palestinian territory.
And yet somehow there are delusional people speaking all night on Al Jazeera–Tony Blair, Condoleeza Rice and the other usual suspects–about a plan that somehow is going to turn the situation around and grant a state to the Palestinians. What state? Please tell me it is not the one Ismael Haniyeh is requesting on 1967 borders:
The Hamas leader spoke at a meeting with 11 European parliamentarians who sailed from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip to protest Israel’s naval blockade of the territory. Haniyeh told his guests Israel rejected his initiative.
Haniyeh is a refugee from ‘Asqalan. If he wants to give up his right of return that is his choice. But how can he join Fateh’s fateful position that will ostensibly mean a right of return to Ramallah? And in what universe is it two states? Please tell me how on earth with the separation of Gaza and the West Bank as long as it is–I clocked at around 2 hours in the car from Erez to the “border” near Khalil?
